Umbrella Heaven
(England)
Umbrella Heaven were a six-piece band from south-east London, fronted by singer and songwriter Simon Aldous. Nearly all its band members were moonlighting from other bands, notably Claire Lemmon and Melanie Woods, whose main band was Sidi Bou Said. The band was active from 1992 till 2001.
Umbrella Heaven's music was generally described as dark and moody, and they were compared to such bands as Orange Juice, Pulp and Psychedelic Furs.
Their debut single, Perverted Pleasure, was released on the BoogleWonderland label in 1994, and played on Radio 1. It was followed up by the album Do You Hate Me? Two more albums followed, Chosen to Be Frozen (1997) and Light Sleeper (2000) which was produced by Hefner's Darren Hayman.
