The Badgeman
(United Kingdom)
Not really "twee" but on the edge of that scene. Debut LP "Kings of The Desert" released by Paperhouse in 1990 followed by European tour with labelmates Teenage Fanclub. Plenty of plays from John Peel etc, reasonably popular, but really just typical heavy pop/psych pastiche common at the time. Much better "Curse of The Badgeman" EP released in 91 - unfortunately life was to imitate art as the distribution company went bust as did Sounds Magazine who were ready to run a full page on the band to coincide with the release!

1992 saw the LP "Ritual Landscape" - no one bought it at the time, but it has since come to be seen as a lost classic, cited by the likes of Julian Cope who made it his "Unsung Album of The Month" in December 2007. http://www.headheritage.com/unsung/albumofthemonth/1834
