Lloyd Cole-Felt

actually i can. And the link is in Television, or more specifically Tom
Verlaine, who was a major influence on both Lawrence and Cole. The early
Cole/Commotions records do have a Verlaine-esque feel to them,
specifically in vocal delivery, and i can see someone making that
connection with Lawrence too, although perosnally i don't think it's as
overt.

well i'm not so sure on the Dylan thing. I think Dylan pretty much sucks
as well, and i think Lawrence was much more influenced by Patti Smith,
Verlaine, Kerouac than by Dylan. i don't see the Dylan connection at all
really, to be honest, unless you're talking the poetic input, in which
case, see Patti Smith for a more likely inspiration. Lawrence once said
that 'Horses' and 'Marquee Moon' were on the top shelf of classics, and
everything else was under that. He never mentioned Dylan... And when he
was in Denim he sang that he was against so much, it was hilarious.
Bottom line was that he was for novelty records, especially if they were
fine up to a point.

now THAT we can agree on!
