Summer Cats
(Australia) Victoria
Summer Cats are two girls and three boys from Melbourne, Australia. Like most people from Melbourne, they spend their time either: a) enjoying summer or b) waiting for summer to arrive.
They play crash pop influenced by the UK c86 sounds, US early 90's sounds (K Records and Slumberland). Musically they are somewhat of a cross between Talulah Gosh and the Left Banke.
Summer Cats started playing live at the start of 2007. After playing only two shows, they managed to get a three and a half star review on Pitchfork for one of their demos. This then led to them thinking they could take on the rest of world, and they have since been busy trying to do just that.
They have released two split 7"s, one with Eux Autres released on Knock Yr Socks Off Records the other with The Pains of Being Pure At Heart released on Slumberland records; two 3" CDRs, "Wild Rice", on Cloudberry records and "Passion Pop" on WeePOP!; a 5 track EP, "Scratching Post", on Popboomerang Records; and a 7", "Lonely Planet", on Cloudberry records.
2009 saw the release of their first full-length album "Songs for Tuesdays" which was released through Slumberland in the USA and High Point in Australia. It remained resident in the CMJ charts for 3 months and garnered college radio station airplay. It was supported by their first international tour, of West Coast USA. Summer Cats are expected to return to the United States in March to play SXSW. More information can be found on the band's myspace page.
